THIS & THAT

This & that and not much of anything pretty much describes this post.

Are you a coupon clipper? Well, I have had seasons of coupon clipping in my life but I'm not consistent. Recently I read a comment left on Prayerfully Yours. I decided to visit the commenter and found a renewed interest in coupon clipping. The name of the blog is Together We Save if you want to check it out. What I find so interesting is the work that the blogger puts into the blog. Oh my goodness, I love her and don't even know her. What I really like is that she posts the weekly specials from CVS & Walgreen and tells you how to apply the coupons with their store specials to maximize your saving. HOW COOL IS THAT!!! Now, I'm not brainy enough to figure it out for myself so I need someone to just tell me how to do it. My sister, Tiz, from Prayerfully Yours sees couponing as a mission. If she can save a lot on a product, she figures she or someone else (church nursery) can use, then that is a good use of her resources (time & money). I think she has a point. Little did I know that going to one blog on couponing/saving money would lead to another site, which would lead to another site and the next thing I knew half the day was gone. My hang up with coupons is that a lot of time you can buy the store brand cheaper than using a coupon. Today was my day. I went to CVS with the intention of buying one thing and found another thing 50% off. The 50% off price was less than the coupon I had for it so I got it FREE and it is a product I regularly use. I'm so happy this afternoon. Yes, I know it doesn't take much. Seriously, let me know if you use coupons or how you go about saving money in this economy.

Now on to a rant. You know I don't usually get stirred up enough to rant on my blog. It just takes to much energy and runs my blood pressure up. Now you really are wondering what could possibly have me this stirred up. MY POWER BILL!! Apparently Alabama Power decided to give me a new digital meter so that the company could lay off the meter reader. Now they just electronically determine my power bill. This change resulted in my getting a power bill double the bill last month (from $134 last month to $256 this month). I've never had a power bill in my newly constructed, insulated beyond required house of more than $150 a month. Now before you say, well, JC, you do have a man in the house so you are probably using more power, save it!!! I've already used that argument on myself and it didn't work. Joe is one of these, turn off the lights, unplug appliances not in use, close off the vents and close the doors to rooms not being used kind of guy. So I'm highly ticked off, and I'm gripping profusely, but I'm not calling my sister-in-law that works for Alabama Power and fussing at her about it. I'm fussing to the wind, and to Joe, and to you. Now I feel better. Whew!!! That's all I needed.

On to my dental issues. The bone graft site appears to be doing well. Swollen (yes). Sore (a little) but no extreme redness so I'm claiming the best. I've only taken two pain pills since last Wednesday when the procedure was done. The stitches are getting on my last nerve. Just imagine whiskers poking out of your gums. I don't know if these are the dissolving kind or the get them cut out kind. Tomorrow, I go have braces put on the bottom teeth. I'm not looking forward to it at all but it has to been done before my bottom teeth start shifting due to the missing teeth. I'm so sorry if I'm grossing any of you out. I figure only faithful readers are still reading. If you are still reading "THANK YOU".

One last thing, I hate basketball. The squeaking of sneakers on hardwood just drives me up the wall like fingernails on chalkboard. I avoided basketball games when I was in high school (graduated in 1971). Well, this Friday night is the last season game at home for the grandson that just turned 16. Needless to say, Pawpaw and I are going. Pawpaw doesn't care a thing about going either but what are we to do? We will go and I'll distract myself by watching the other grandparents squirm on hard bleachers. HA!!!! I'm cracking myself up. I can just picture it.

Hope you are having a great week.

Hi JC, thanks for the informative post. I needed the laugh about the basketball grandparents!!

If it will make you feel any better our power bill was $376.24!!! You know what Gene said,"well, I am going to get up there and pay this as soon as I can. We stayed warm and the power stayed on"...eased the pain a little bit.

You are right about that couponing..it can eat up half a day in a hurry. Maybe someone will visit Tiz on Prayerfully Yours after reading your post.

Love you, Bethy

Oh I SO hope the graft is doing well.

Ouch! I'm not even sure what our power bill was last month (Bryan handles the bill pay) but I know everything seems expensive to me lately. We have had a LOT of money going out lately for the kids (dentist - ACK).

I love that you have Grandkids that you have to watch play sports, etc. D & G used to watch dance and piano recitals... bless their hearts :)

Love you!!

I rarely think to clip a coupon.. I'm bad that way. And I couldn't tell you what my previous power bills were.. well I could but I'd have to look at them. Hope your dental issues are soon resolved.

Glad the dental work is going well!

Thanks for the coupon site. I'll check it out. I lovelovelove coupons, but since I buy mostly fruits, veggies, and meat, I don't get to use too many coupons. :)

My utility bill was almost $300, so I do feel your pain!

You might want to have someone from the electric company just double check that there are no issues with the new dial or that you weren't charged twice; once for the old reading and then again for the old and new reading. It's a reach but mistakes do happen!
I am with you about the squeaky shoes on the basketball courts! Love allows us to endure things we never thought we could.

Thank you so much for your kind words... I too look at the freebies and great deals as a mission. Our local charity is very glad I have learned the whole coupon thing.

Oh ans your rant about your power bill.... don't even get me started about mine!

I am not crazy about any sport but if someone I know is playing, I like to watch. Maybe the Grandson will be good and you will have lots of fun watching him. I know they love to have loved ones there. It is their time to shine.
Hope you get that pesky bill problem figured out (o:
You are so brave to go through this whole dental thing you have been through. Hope those stitches are out soon and things are on the mend.

our power bill has been hovering around $280 - our rental house isn't insulated worth crap.

i have tried SO many times to use coupons... and every time i just end up going to sam's club anyway. so now i have fun cutting out all the coupons but i mail them to other people.
